Grace and I have a list of US cities we want to visit and Portland ended up being the first one off the list. We wanted to stay at the Ace Hotel, but weren’t able to get the room we wanted so we opted out for an AirBnB. Regardless, it was a great place.
We left Friday night and checked in and decided to go to one bar before going to bed. So we went to the Paymaster Lounge nearby, which I have no photos of because I didn’t feel like taking my camera out that late.
The next morning, we wanted to get coffee but before that we went to Blue Star Donuts for breakfast.
We went on to Stumptown Coffee where we got a cold brew which they had on tap! The one we went to was connected to the Ace Hotel lobby, where they had retro games you could play on small CRT TVs. They had the Sega Genesis, SNES, and Dig Dug.
While wandering the streets and visiting some stores, we saw a poster saying they would be closed at 5PM that day for the Starlight Parade. After finding out that we were from out of town, they explained that the Starlight Parade was the kickoff parade to the Rose Festival. Roses were blooming and they suggested we check out the International Rose Test Garden. So that’s what we did.
Across from the Rose Garden was also a Japanese Garden. We thought “why not we’re already here” so we walked up some stairs up to the garden.
We headed back home to rest, but not before checking out the restaurant right next door to our AirBnB, Boke.
We had plans to meet with Grace’s coworker who happened to be there the same weekend. We met at a bar called Dig A Pony and got a few drinks before finally heading off to dinner at Nostrana where we ended the night…
Day 2 I’ll post soon.
